So it turns out that two days of healthy eating and exercising is not enough to stop the ravages of the cold that I woke up to this morning. Full snot rocket and everything. Who saw that coming, hey?
Curse you lettuce! You failed me! I’ll take back my Hula Hoops, thank you very much!
Now today could very easily have decended into self-pity territory, wherein I develop a nest of tissues and wallow to every unsuspecting roommate that dares to walk by (I can be as dramatic as any Man Flu riddled gent if I want to be) if it wasn’t for one thing…
MY UK MONEY HAD FINALLY COME THROUGH! I’m am no longer as skint as I was!
And how do I choose to celebrate this presently life altering fact? By buying lunch from Burger King because I am a classy, cultural bird.
I also more sensibly decided to book in several activities I’d like to do on the next leg of my travels (you know, before the money metaphorically burns a hole in my pocket) - the brilliance with staying at Base is that they have a massive desk where you can purchase all your activities, and if you’re travelling with a company like Stray or Kiwi Experience then 9 times out of 10 you can get better deals and save some money!
Still not sponsored by the way…
It’s especially great to have on hand when, like me, you don’t tend to plan anything beyond a week in advance. Hey, it’s working out OK so far, why fix what isn’t broken?
The beauty of not planning too far in advance is that you’re more free to change your plans last minute; say if you meet new friends and want to join them in going somewhere new.
Either way, I have now booked in the following things to do:
- Raglan Surfing School
- Waitomo Glow Worm Caves
- Tamaki Maori Culture Centre
- White Water Rafting at Lake Taupo.
Lesson 19: If given the option, pick/pay for activities are valid for up to 12 months, so instead of being tied down to use them on a specific date, you’re free to essentially cash them in whenever you like!
The only down side is that I can’t get back on the Stray bus for a few days because the Stray buses are starting to pile up (hello imminent summer!) so I’ve had to extend my stay in Auckland for longer than anticipated. It’s not too much of a problem, but when you’ve got things to look forward to you kind of want to get on and do them as soon as possible! Not that I’m impulsive or impatient or anything…
Ah, the downside of not planning in advance. Swings and roundabouts I suppose!
Still, celebrations are in order, and where do I apparently keep going to celebrate? Sunshine Bar with Jess!
